Black Lace Tunic Top

Black Lace Tunic Top

Recently, I celebrated my birthday. I wanted to make a stylish outfit for the special day, but I didn’t have enough time to construct a complete outfit.

Instead the night before my big day, I whipped up this black, lace tunic blouse in less then one hour without a commercial pattern.

This blouse was truly a d.i.y. project. What this means is that I traced the design on top of the lace fabric. Next, I cut the shirt out and sewed the garment.

Once I completed the blouse, I was ready to show it off to my students. I work with 16-24 year old students, and they can be brutally honest. I decided to pair the lace, tunic blouse with a fitted, black pencil skirt. You can’t go wrong with an all black ensemble.

I coordinated the look with a navy blue necklace and earring set. The real show-stopper was my blue Gianni Bini ankle boots with black rhinestones.

When I arrived to work on Monday, my students were so shocked. I received rave reviews for my outfit. Best of all, I had an opportunity to share my special day with one of my students. She turned 20 years old, and I will just say I felt like I was turning sweet 16 all over again. I won’t reveal my true age at this time lol. I will just say that I am glad I lived to see another year.

Overall, I had a great birthday and the black, lace tunic top was a major hit. I need to make more quick, simple sewing projects like this one more often.
